Hyundai has announced that the new 2011 Hyundai Sonata is the first vehicle in the industry that offers all three technologies with the new Sonata 2.0T (turbo) and the Hyundai Sonata hybrid to join the hot sales rooms GDI Sonata Hyundai exposure in late 2010. In 2010 New York Auto Show, Hyundai unveiled its Sonata hybrid 2011, changes the game in the hybrids with unique approaches to the design of hybrid drive, battery technology and the appearance of the vehicle. The Sonata is Hyundai’s first hybrid hybrid in the U.S. market.
ohn Krafcik, president and CEO, Hyundai Motor America said “The Hyundai Sonata Hybrid is the new kid on the block, but it’s not a follower,” and “Its full parallel hybrid configuration and breakthough lithium polymer batteries offer a new take on traditional hybrid design, while its unique design sets it apart from the mid-size hybrid pack.”
Hyundai developed the blue Hybrid Drive system architecture is a complete unit parallel hybrid that can run an electric motor, fuel for internal combustion engines, and a combination of both, depending on driving conditions and driver requirements. Hyundai owner complete parallel architecture different from the power distribution technology used by most competitors, allowing significant gains in efficiency at higher speeds. Blue Hyundai Hybrid Drive is the first and only using the technology of lithium polymer batteries – was launched competitive nickel-metal hydride and lithium ion applications.
Lithium polymer offers the advantages of lithium ion technology used in laptops and cell phones, but adds robustness, flexibility and power density package, making it ideal for automotive applications. Blue Hyundai Hybrid Drive is also unique in its use of the company’s own high performance, compact 6-speed transmission new, modified with the hybrid starter-generator, electric motor, oil pump, low friction, which together help eliminate the traditional torque converter.
“Hyundai applies advanced technologies to vehicles to provide the best solutions for the everyday driver,” said Krafcik. “Unlike traditional hybrids that trade off highway fuel economy for higher city ratings, the Hyundai Sonata Hybrid delivers best-in-class highway fuel economy, while still delivering about a 40 percent improvement in city fuel economy compared to a Sonata equipped with the Theta II GDI engine. We think this is a better balanced approach for the majority of car buyers.”
